RTI to Bengaluru Airport on Vision Box (DigiYatra) dated February 3, 2020

The information sought herein relates to the use of Facial Recognition Technology at the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru under the DigiYatra National Digital Traveler System as well as a tweet posted by Mr. Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation in the Government of India dated 21 January, 2020. Please provide information in response to the following queries:

1.Please state whether the System is GDPR compliant as stated by Mr. Jayant Sinha in his tweet dated 21 January, 2020. If yes, please state the measures which have been taken to ensure proper compliance with the GDPR.

  1. Please state whether the High Level Data Privacy Guidelines as provided in the Digi Yatra Policy uploaded on the National Portal of India website are binding. If yes, please state the penalties that will be imposed if the Guidelines are violated and/or not followed.

3.Please state whether the System is compliant with the Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures as under Rule 8 of the Information Technology (Reasonable security practices and procedures and sensitive personal data or information) Rules, 2011. If yes, please state the measures taken to ensure proper compliance with the Rules.

  1. Please state the manner in which the audits as stated in the DigiYatra Policy document will be conducted. Additionally, please state the name of the agency which will be administering such audits.
